Tried & Tested: Rhodes Twenty10

There are so many fabulous restaurants in Dubai that we are spoilt for choice – even after eight years here, I still have a long list of places to try, which grows with every new hotel opening. After a recent trip to Taste of Dubai, where I sampled some lovely fois gras courtesy of Mr Gary Rhodes (and met the man himself) I had decided that one of his outlets would be the next on my list. I mentioned this to a fellow foodie and my partner in crime for restaurant sampling, and at the mere mention of his name, my friend could not stop talking about Rhodes Twenty10, and in particular the apparently unforgettable lobster, so after a weekend of much lobster-based conversation, we booked a table.

We were there at the beginning of the week and went straight from work, so the restaurant was pretty empty to start with, but soon filled up, and for just cause. The decor was lovely – elegant and sophisticated without being ostentatious – and the atmosphere reflected the surroundings. The music was tasteful and at the right volume, and the tables were spaced far enough apart to ensure privacy of dinner conversation. The food itself was delicious, although there was one huge issue – the lobster, which had been the reason for our visit and the cause of much excessive salivation from my friend, was no longer on the menu! Reluctantly we made other choices and I personally was not disappointed with the tender lamb I received, nor with the selection of starters, which were all outstanding. In an effort to be good we planned to resist the tempting dessert menu and kept to tea and coffee, however our efforts were in vain, as the waiters delivered freshly made mini hot cross buns to accompany the drinks – a very nice touch to celebrate the fact that it was Easter Monday on the day we visited, and a great way to finish a lovely meal. I’d definitely recommend the restaurant for high quality food at a reasonable price and in a very convenient location at Le Royal Meridien hotel on JBR.
